The flag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (German: Flagge Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns) is characterized by a design comprising five horizontal stripes in the colors blue, white, yellow, white, and red, typically displayed in the ratio of 4:3:1:3:4. These colors are a fusion of the historical flags of two regions, combining the blue and white flag of Western Pomerania with the blue, yellow, and red flag of Mecklenburg. At the center of the state flag (below) are the crowned black bull's head of Mecklenburg and the red griffin of Pomerania. These symbols have deep historical roots, dating back at least to the Middle Ages, when they were used by the Dukes of Mecklenburg and Pomerania. The flag's design and emblematic elements serve as a powerful representation of the state's rich historical heritage, cultural identity, and the enduring legacy of these two regions within Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
